Ryanair has announced that it will stop accepting paper boarding passes by May 2025 and plans to phase out check-in desks by the same deadline.
During a press conference in Dublin last week, CEO Michael O’Leary revealed that 60% of Ryanair passengers already check in and board using the airline’s website or app. He expects this number to rise to 80% by the end of the year.
According to the Irish News, O’Leary said, “We want to eliminate airport check-ins in the same way we got rid of bag drop desks. From May 1, 2025, everything will be done through the app—there won’t be any paper anymore.”
O’Leary reassured passengers that they need not worry about missing flights due to technical issues with their mobile devices. If needed, boarding passes can still be issued at the gate. “Sometimes a phone doesn’t scan properly, but as long as we have the name and passport details, that’s enough. However, everyone will be using the app,” he explained.
