Finnair has announced it will cancel approximately 100 flights scheduled for tomorrow (2 July), including two morning departures to London Heathrow and Edinburgh, in response to strike action taking place at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.
The industrial action is being organised by the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) as part of an ongoing dispute over working conditions and pay. Finnair has said the strike will affect around 7,000 passengers, causing significant disruption to travel plans both domestically and internationally.
Customers whose flights are cancelled will be contacted directly by the airline. Finnair is offering flexibility to all passengers booked to travel on 2 July, allowing them to change their travel dates free of amendment fees or, if they prefer, to cancel their booking entirely for a full refund.
The IAU has also announced additional strike days planned for 4, 7, 16, 18, 21, and 23 July. While Finnair has not yet confirmed which services will be impacted on those dates, travellers are being advised to monitor updates closely and prepare for possible disruption.
This latest wave of industrial action follows a series of strikes that have hit Helsinki-Vantaa Airport earlier this year. In May, strike action resulted in more than 110 flight cancellations, including several services between Finland and the UK. The ongoing labour disputes continue to create challenges for travellers, airlines, and airport operations alike.
Travellers are encouraged to check their flight status before heading to the airport and to consider alternative arrangements if necessary. Finnair has apologised for the inconvenience and says it is doing everything possible to minimise the impact on passengers.
