A new cruise ship has arrived in North Shields to embark on its maiden voyage, where thousands of passengers will be boarding. Weighing in at approximately 48,000 tonnes and with a capacity to accommodate over 2,000 passengers and crew, the MS Ambition is owned by Ambassador and is set to give a significant boost to the economy of the north-east of England.
Operating routine cruises from the Port of Tyne to various UK ports, Europe and the Norwegian fjords, the ship is well-equipped to navigate smaller ports including those on protected waters.
Previously sailing under a different operator in Germany, the ship was recently used to house over 1,200 Ukrainian refugees when it was docked in Glasgow. Following extensive renovation work, the vessel is now ready to embark on its new journey.
The maiden voyage will see the ship traverse the North Sea to France and Germany, and is expected to bring visitors from across the world to the region, creating new job opportunities and stimulating the local economy.
Christian Verhounig, Ambassador Cruise Line’s CEO, described the day as “extremely important” for the company.
