No form checks when travelling back to the UK

Have the Government given up on Track & Trace?

The UK border control staff are not actually making any effort to be able to track and trace people travelling back into the UK from abroad.

I flew back from Malaga to Manchester on Monday, and on arrival to the UK was anticipating being asked to show the lengthy form Easyjet had asked me to complete ready for my arrival.

At border control, all passengers with an EU passport were encouraged to use the e-gates and there were no checks at all to verify if people had completed the online form. I spoke to a few fellow passengers who had not completed the form, they wasn’t stopped leaving or fined.

The UK Government website states:

If you’re a resident or visitor travelling to the UK, you must provide your journey and contact details.

You’ll also need to self-isolate in the place you’re staying for the first 14 days after you arrive, unless you’re travelling from certain countries or territories.

You may be fined up to £100 if you refuse to provide your contact details. You may be fined more if you break this rule more than once. You may also be fined up to £1,000 if you refuse to self-isolate, or you could face further action.

Whilst I was travelling Spain, a country exempt from self isolation on arrival into the UK – you would expect the borders to be ensuring that they have contact details of people entering the country from abroad, for our UK “world beating” track and trace system.
