To travel to Spain, what do I need? Information on latest UK entry rules

Rules to travel to spain

Here are the rules for travellers from the UK going to Spain, which includes the PCR tests and vaccination proof they need to bring – as well as the rules for returning back to the UK.

Even if you’re planning a trip during autumn/winter, there is still plenty of sunny weather to be found in places like Madrid and Seville, along the beautiful beaches of Spain, or in hot spots like the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands.

Due to the pandemic, Brits still have to observe some entry rules when they travel abroad and when they return home.

Can you tell me what the rules for travelling to Spain are?

The following is a necessary checklist for UK travellers, whether they are visiting the mainland or the islands:

Testing is not required for children under 12 years of age. Rather than your vaccination appointment card (which would not be accepted), Spain accepts the NHS Covid Pass as proof of full vaccination.

From the mainland of Spain, you may need to show a negative Covid test if you are going to the Canary Islands or Balearic Islands.

Depending on where you are staying, you may be required to show a positive Covid test, vaccination proof, or recent recovery from Covid.

Returning to the UK from Spain.

Earlier this month, the UK changed its travel rules, removing the amber list and adding red or rest of world lists in its place. The vaccination requirements for returning from Spain vary from person to person based on vaccination status.

If you’re fully vaccinated, you’ll need to take one PCR test, on day two of being back.

If you are not vaccinated or only partially vaccinated, you’ll need a pre-departure test, along with PCR tests two and eight after you arrive in the UK. Additionally, you must self-isolate for 10 days, although you can pay an extra fee for a fourth test that releases you early if the result is negative.
