Virgin Atlantic Restarts Long-Haul Flights to Cancun After Six-Year Hiatus

Virgin Atlantic has announced the relaunch of its long-haul route from London Heathrow to Cancun, marking its return to the Mexican destination after six years.

The new service will begin on October 19, 2025, with three weekly flights, providing the only direct connection from Heathrow to Cancun. This development follows the suspension of the route in 2019.

Other UK airports offering direct flights to Cancun include London Gatwick with British Airways and Birmingham with TUI.

Juha Jarvinen, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Atlantic, expressed enthusiasm about the relaunch, highlighting Cancun’s vibrant nightlife, sandy beaches, and proximity to Mayan ruins and adventure travel opportunities. The new route also enhances connectivity through partnerships with LATAM and Aeromexico.

Andres Martinez, Director of the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo, welcomed the return of Virgin Atlantic’s services, emphasizing the region’s appeal to visitors from the UK.

Cancun offers a mix of cultural and leisure attractions, from the world-famous Chichén Itzá to natural cenotes and pristine beaches. The destination is popular among travelers seeking both relaxation and adventure.

The dry season from December to April, with average temperatures reaching up to 32°C, is considered the best time to visit.

We can off you packages on this new route to any of our Mexico Travel Offers.
