If you’ve been waiting to explore the wonderful country of Malaysia, then the wait is over on the 01st April, when the country will reopen to international tourism.
Previously, it was only possible to enter Malaysia via Langkawi, and had many restrictions meaning it never really took off as a viable option to enter for tourism purposes.
Malaysia has been closed down to tourism since March 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic was spreading rapidly around the world.
What are the requirements for entering Malaysia from 01st April
- Take a PCR test a max of 48 hours prior to flight departure
- Upon arrival take a RTK-Antigen test under supervision
- Download the MySejahtera tracking application
- Complete a pre-departure form
Nearly 80 per cent of Malaysia’s total population have been fully vaccinated, while 64 per cent of Malaysians have taken a booster dose.
Malaysia opening up is great in general for travel to the region of Southeast Asia, as it compliments other countries that are removing or relaxing rules for travel in the region. It is very popular with UK tourists to visit several countries on one trip – here are some of the rules of other countries in the region.
Thailand – Test & Go – vaccinated travellers need to pre book 1 night in an approved hotel and undertake a PCR test – which if returns negative, allows you to travel freely.
Cambodia – Vaccinated travellers are simply required to take a lateral flow test at the airport, then are free to travel. A visa is also required and this can be easily obtained online.
Philippines – probably one of the easiest countries in the region, vaccinated travellers can present either a negative RT-PCR test taken within 48 hours prior to the date and time of departure or a negative laboratory based Antigen Test taken within 24 hours. No further testing on arrival is required.
Singapore – Singapore has VTL (vaccinated travel lanes) with the UK, Philippines & Thailand. You are required to arrive on a designated VTL flight, with a negative test result (PCR or Antigen) and then take a self administered test 24 hours after arriving.
