Air Mauritius has announced daily flights to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Mauritius from London Gatwick Airport, providing greater choice for winter sun-seeking travellers.
The airline will commence the new direct service using Airbus A350-900 and A330-900neo aircraft on the 29 October.
Around 290,000 passengers are estimated to have flown on the London-Mauritius route in 2022, a 4% increase from 2019.
Stephanie Wear, VP Aviation Development at Gatwick Airport, stated that the new service will provide more competition and flights to a popular holiday destination known for its tropical year-round climate and beaches.
This new service, along with other airlines looking to operate long-haul routes from Gatwick, highlights the airport’s demand for slots and competitiveness in attracting new routes.
Air Mauritius CEO Krešimir Kučko expressed pride in launching the new service and meeting the increasing demand for the historical route with the airline’s most environmentally friendly aircraft.
The route will compete with British Airways flights on price, which are currently slightly cheaper for return flights on this route.
A return direct flight from Gatwick to Mauritius direct currently costs around £750 per person return – with better rates available if you book your flight and hotel together as a package.
