A hotel review of Sindhorn Midtown Bangkok.
This a non-sponsored travel agent review is of a 2 night stay in March 2023.
Location of Sindhorn midtown Bangkok
If visiting Bangkok for the first time, and confused about which area to stay in, the Sindhorn Midtown couldn’t be a better choice.
It’s perfectly sandwiched between the flamboyant nightlife of Silom, the sophisticated shopping of Siam – and the tourist hot spots of Sukhumvit. All whilst being so well tucked away, you could be fooled into thinking you are staying in a much more peaceful city.
Less than an 8 minute comfortable walk from the BTS (connecting you fast to the rest of Bangkok) – and a cheap taxi ride to most places you would want to get to, the location is unbeatable.
On your very doorstep you have a 24 hour convenience store (7 Eleven) – and during the day, there are many street food stands should you wish to sample a slice of local delights.
Many popular eating and drinking haunts, such as “Beer republic” & “Bull & Bear” are within a short walk – plus several malls with every cuisine you could wish for, from healthy salads, to damn right delicious.
Sindhorn Midtown Rooms
Sometimes, scanid minimalism designs can leave you feeling a tad underwhelmed, and end up looking too basic. Whilst scandic, minimal and understated – Sindhorn midtown still manages to impress.
Although not uber-luxurious, the rooms are very classy and comfortable. Every detail has been cleverly thought of. The intuitive layout, allows you to feel like you are arriving back home, with everything where you would expect it to be.
From USB and international plugs on both sides of the bed, to a comfortable work desk – everything feels so convenient.
Rooms are fitted with blackout blinds, the beds are phenomenally comfortable, and the sound-proofing is excellent. Having stayed in so many Bangkok Hotels, I would 100% say that this hotel offers the best night’s sleep.
Little touches like packets of drip coffee, rather than just instant powder, make the stay feel that more special.
I was very impressed by the full sized air purifier in the room – with Bangkok air quality as it is, I was surprised that this is the first time I was seeing this in a hotel room.
The Pool
As soon as you step outside to the pool area on the 18th floor, you’re blown away by the incredible views that are beyond the infinity pool.
The pool is surrounded by stylish sunbeds, that unfortunately do tend to always be fully occupied during the sunlight hours. People come and go quite regularly though, so if you take a chair by the bar, you shouldn’t have to wait too long until a sunbed becomes free.
The bar staff at Horizon Bar by the pool were always cheerful and kept busy to ensure that nobody had to wait long for refreshments.
They serve an extensive range of cocktails, mocktails and spritzers. Prices are a little high (see menu below) – but as is expected at any hotel pool bar that is popular.
The Gym Sindhorn Midtown
The Gym is one floor above the pool area, and again offers incredible views to indulge in whilst you work off those tasty thai meals.
It’s spacious and airy and has more than enough equipment to complete either a cardio or weights session. Free water is available.
During my stay the gym was always empty at the times I wished to use.
The Breakfast at Bangkok ’78
Breakfast is served at Bangkok 78 Restaurant on the first floor between 0630-1100 (great to see both early and late risers getting a shot).
The selection of food is excellent with a great balance of Asian & Western choices. Eggs are made to order, you complete the egg form and they’ll deliver them to your table when they are done.
Hot choices include everything from Vegan curries to Traditional English Breakfast items. There’s a wide choice of cheeses and deli meats, plenty of different breads and pastries, loads of fruit and much more.
Coffee & teas can be ordered to the table or you can self-serve from the coffee machines. The coffee to order is considerably better than the self-service machine. The self-service fruit juices are delicious and taste like real freshly pressed juice (not the usual hotel breakfast e-number soup juice).
The restaurant does have a busy and slightly rushed atmosphere, but it doesn’t ruin your overall enjoyment. Ensure that you leave either a person or some belongings when you go for a second helping, or you will return to your table cleared and someone else sat at your table.
The selection of food did change slightly on my second day, which was nice to not just have to have the entire same choice again.
The food is all cooked and seasoned well, and I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast at Sindhorn Midtown.
The Black Cat
Adjacent to reception is The Black Cat – a Thai Whiskey bar with an upscale atmosphere and a choice of sophisticated signature cocktails.
During my visit there was a function, so it was much busier than usual – but I still loved the experience and the live music was very entertaining.
I tried two signature cocktails, a Success & a Serendipity cocktail and both were an absolute treat for the tastebuds – mixed to perfection.
Probably due to the stress the staff were under because of the function, I didn’t find the service at The Black Cat to match the ambiance and the prices of the bar. When I asked for a cocktail recommendation, the server just pointed at the first cocktail in the book, without any thought or conversation.
I noticed many hotel guests walk into the bar, and then immediately leave – probably due to feeling under-dressed in their casual holiday wear, when the function guests were in evening gowns.
Dinner at Bangkok 78 Sindhorn Midtown
The breakfast restaurant turns into a la carte restaurant for lunch and dinner – Bangkok ‘78
The menu is enormous and varied, with so much choice everyone in your party is certain to find a dish that they desire. I opted for spicy beef salad and soft crab noodles, both dishes were absolutely melt in your mouth delicious.
The service was exceptional with a real genuine personal touch – especially from the restaurant manager.
As it’s the same restaurant that serves breakfast, it does feel a little canteen-esque, which is a massive shame when the food and service is so wonderful. I will still certainly be returning to the restaurant as a non hotel resident to sample some more of the menu.
Overall
Sindhorn midtown is a hotel that offers stylish comfort but without any pretentious nonsense. The location is hard to beat and the facilities are top class. The hotel has a 9.1 review rating on booking.com – so almost everyone who has stayed agrees with me that the hotel is hard to fault.
Whilst officially rated a 4-star hotel, the Sindhorn Midtown is superior to many 5 star properties that I have stayed at in Bangkok. I highly recommend the hotel to young couples, honeymooners, families, business travellers and solo travellers.
