Thailand will begin to charge an entry fee from June 2023. Thailand is experiencing better than anticipated tourism post covid, and have decided to bring in the 300 baht (£7.25) entry fee for air arrivals.
Tourism Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn informed reporters after the cabinet approved the charges Tuesday. “The fees will come into effect in June”, he said.
The government anticipates collecting about 3.9 billion baht in fees this year with the scheme. The money will be used to provide health and accidental insurance cover for the tourists during their stay in the country, Phiphat said.
According to forecasters, foreign tourist arrivals to Thailand could potentially reach as high as 30 million this year, almost tripling from 11.2 million last year.
The arrival levy is in addition to a departure tax payable when departing Thailand. The departure tax, however, is already included in air ticket prices. The current departure tax paid via your airfare is 700 baht. Meaning a total of 1000 baht (£25) will be payable to enter and depart Thailand.
