Skyscanner’s latest research has revealed that despite soaring prices, many Britons are still eager to escape for a sunny break away. The study, conducted by Skyscanner’s travel experts, has identified this year’s most popular summer holiday destination, and the winner is a beautiful spot in Spain.
According to Skyscanner’s report, Malaga is the most sought-after holiday spot this year. This stunning Spanish city is not only packed with attractions like the Picasso Museum, but it is also one of the most affordable destinations to fly to in August, making it an ideal choice for a budget-friendly holiday in the sun. Moreover, Malaga is situated close to some of the most beautiful beaches on the Costa del Sol and home to many British expats.
The Skyscanner report found that Spain dominates the list of the most popular summer holiday destinations. Barcelona and Alicante secured second and third place, respectively, in the rankings.
Tourists heading to Barcelona can soak up the sun while admiring the stunning architecture of Gaudi. At La Boqueria food market, they can also indulge in local delicacies and treats from all over Spain. Alicante, on the other hand, is a premier destination in Costa Blanca and the ideal airport to access popular resorts such as Benidorm.
Dublin, which is a little closer to home, came in fourth on the list. However, tourists might find accommodation prices quite steep in the Irish capital. New York came fifth but is quite expensive for British tourists this year.
Istanbul, which ranked eighth on Skyscanner’s list, could be a more affordable option as the British pound is strong against the Turkish lira.
Faro, the gem of Portugal’s Algarve coast, is another affordable destination that offers almost guaranteed sunshine.
Skyscanner’s trends and destination expert, Laura Lindsay, suggests that great deals are available for those who know how to shop around, and remaining flexible on travel times and destinations will ultimately lead to the best prices.
The Skyscanner team recommends checking flight prices for the entire month to find the cheapest day to travel to a destination. Additionally, British tourists can set a price alert on Skyscanner or another flight comparison site to monitor the cost of their flight.
Other popular destinations for Britons include Sydney, Bangkok, Orlando, and Singapore, with Melbourne and Perth also making the list.
